Been a while...

Oh, I started with good intentions. Of course, as they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Guess I know where I'm going, huh?

I got sick back in March/April and then had company and then...well, just way too busy.

So, starting again.

I remember one holiday at my in-laws' house. Ex in-laws now but still love them to death and have frequent contact with them but I digress. My oldest daughter (we'll call her Diva, for the sake of protecting the guilty) laid in the bedroom crying because Uncle A and Uncle C were not there. I pointed out to her that she was spending so much time mourning who wasn't there for the holiday that she was missing spending time with who was there (namely Uncle B and Uncle D).

I've been thinking about that incident today and realized that, just maybe, that was something she inherited from me. That something would be not being happy with what you have but mourning what you don't.

In my front yard, I have a rough leaf dogwood. I love this little tree/bush...for about 3 or 4 weeks of the year. The rest of the time, I'm ready to take it out. During those few weeks in the spring, I am watching the branches daily, breathlessly waiting for the buds to appear and then the tiny little clusters of flowers blooming. I love those little clusters of small flowers. Then, they are gone for another year.

Another thing that has stopped me from my blog activities is that what I write is never how it is in my head...I think of the most wonderful turns of phrase, the most amusing anecdotes, the most poignant events. Unfortunately, that happens when I am driving or working or otherwise engaged where I can't get fingers to keyboard (forget pen to paper as I can't read my own writing anyway and can no longer spell unless I'm typing (and no, I do not rely on spell check...). By the time I sit down to write/blog, what I thought of is gone like the little flowers from my rough leaf dogwood.
